At an altitude of 2,365 meters above sea level, the Dieng mountain range and Mount Sindoro provide the backdrop for the sunrise. If the weather is favorable, tourists will also enjoy the beauty of the land above the clouds or a sea of clouds as far as the eye can see. Sikunir Hill itself is located in Sembungan Village, a village in Wonosobo that has been named the highest village in Java.
To reach the top of Sikunir Hill, tourists must first climb a hill with a track length of approximately 1 km. There are several peaks that can be used to watch the sunrise, namely peak 1, peak 2, and peak 3. Visitors can choose which spot they want according to their physical strength. The terrain to be traversed consists of stone steps and is equipped with handrails along the way. Lighting is now provided, so there is no need to bring a flashlight as was necessary five years ago. In addition to watching the sunrise, you can also see the beauty of Lake Cebong, Mount Pakuwaja, and the valley from this peak.
The distance is approximately 34 km from the center of Wonosobo City and 8 km from Dieng Village. Therefore, if tourists are staying in the Wonosobo area, the latest departure time to Sikunir is 3:00 a.m., and 3:30 a.m. from Dieng Village. The morning air on Sikunir Hill is very cold, so visitors need to prepare thick jackets, gloves, head coverings, and comfortable footwear for hiking.
The main highlight of Sikunir Hill is undoubtedly the golden sunrise that occurs in the early morning hours. Many visitors begin their trek in the dark, reaching the summit just in time to witness the dawn spectacle. As the first rays of the sun emerge from behind the mountains, the Dieng Caldera is gradually bathed in a warm and golden glow, creating a magical and ethereal atmosphere. The mist-covered valley below adds to the dramatic effect, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
